Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero

Mr. G, as he is popularly known to his students, is Galvin Sablan Deleon Guerrero, a promising leader in the academe who brings with him the character and quality of the young generation.  His unique approachImage of Board of Education Member Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero and perspective to education mirrors the CNMI State Board of Education and the Public School System’s goals that education must be approached through “collaborative and communal process.”

When he joined in 2008 in an elected capacity, Mr. G. brought with him fresh ideas how the Commonwealth’s education system must adopt and implement newer and advanced approach in improving classroom/student learning.  He is the State Board’s Chairman for the School Reform Committee and sits as the Vice-Chairman for the CIP Committee.  His passion in education comes from a personal commitment that the door for opportunities is open to those who would strive and commit to higher learning. While education is another measure of a person’s success, the opportunities are limitless to everyone. This is one of his causes that he continues to advocate with his membership with the State Board of Education.

At a young age, Mr. G. comes with a strong background in education. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature from the University of Puget Sound in Washington and is now a candidate for a Master of Arts degree in School Administration from the University of San Francisco.

His professional background is replete with roles in education, prominently in private school where he served as teacher, Vice Principal, Director of Institutional Development, and Principal at Mount Carmel School, the largest private learning for secondary education.

He also served as an advisor to former Governor Juan N. Babauta on education issues.

In addition to his education and government experiences, Mr. G. has received many awards and recognitions for his involvement in the humanities, arts and culture, and community services.

Being an education enthusiast, Board Member Galvin is passionate about ensuring no one is left behind in education, neither students nor teachers.  Believing that education and learning are collaborative and communal processes, he subscribes to the mantra, “It takes a village to raise a child.”

He is currently the Director for Institutional Effectiveness and the Accreditation Liaison officer of the Northern Marianas College.   He was recently elected by his colleagues as the State Board’s Secretary/Treasurer.
